De-Shedding

Removing loose undercoat from dense coats.

The De-Shedding Process

Dogs are bathed in warm water and cleansed with a shampoo which doesn’t contain alcohol, parabens, soaps or SLS so it is kind to their coat and skin. Tangles and dirt is teased out with a brush whilst the coat is lathered up.

Excess moisture is removed from your dog’s coat and then your dog is thoroughly dried with a blow drier to help dislodge loose undercoat.

Animal safe de-matting products are sprayed into the coat to make it easier to work, the coat is brushed out and carded with a selection of tools. Regular breaks are given for your dog’s welfare as outlined in the Animal Welfare Act. Any trimming that occurs is minor to tidy up small areas such as the hocks, pads and feathering.

A health assessment is carried out and any abnormal findings are reported back to you, a note is made on your dog’s grooming record to ensure it has improved/resolved by the next groom. The health check includes: Coat and skin condition, Eyes and ears, Teeth and gums, Nails and Groin.

What is a Double Coat?

Double coats are made up of two layers; a dense fluffy undercoat which protects your dog from hot and cold temperatures, and a longer protective top coat which repels dirt and moisture. Double coats are thick and shed all year round. Frequent brushing is required to help prevent undercoat impacting on the top coat and forming matts.
